Modernisation of the Fraport to #5Gready

"SWAP" of older mobile technology and upgrade of new services

To meet the increasing demands of mobile users, Telekom recently upgraded its mobile networks at Frankfurt Airport to the Single RAN (SRAN) and 5G Ready standard.

As a well-known service provider at Fraport, we were commissioned with the modernisation measures, because only those who can meet the high security standards can gain access to the site and apron here. The measures included the replacement (SWAP) of the older mobile radio technology as well as the upgrade of new services at a total of 45 locations.

In order to be able to maintain the regular operation of the mobile radio coverage as far as possible, the replacement and the associated shutdown of the technology took place mainly at night from 22:00 to 06:00 in the morning. Together with Fraport, the network operator Telekom and the system supplier, we organised and scheduled the work to be carried out. For some of the locations, a long planning phase was required to obtain approval for relevant shutdowns in hazardous or transport areas.

With the current infrastructure, Telekom is able to cover the needs of mobile users in terms of bandwidth and speed in the best possible way. Frankfurt Airport is therefore #5Gready.
